Decision guide
Account research on ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot or your data warehouse is quick to start. The cost sits in data sources, freshness, coverage and upkeep. Here is when building makes sense, and when it does not.
Build it yourself when your best signals are proprietary (product usage, support tickets, CRM history), you have a platform team to own it, and the account list is short. Buy when the signals that matter are public (news, filings, earnings calls, hiring), the team covers hundreds of accounts, and nobody's job is to keep a research pipeline running.
A working prototype takes an afternoon. Assistants search the web, and ChatGPT, Claude, Microsoft 365 Copilot and Gemini each document how to schedule recurring work, so one rep can get a good brief on one account quickly. What takes the time is everything after the prototype: connecting and paying for sources, keeping them fresh, checking the output, and giving every rep the same answer.
Many teams do both. They connect Salesmotion to the assistant they already use through the MCP server, or pull its data into their own agents and warehouse through the API, and keep their own scoring and routing on top.
Yes, for one rep and a short list. Give an assistant a company name and a good prompt, and it will search the web and write a useful brief. Schedule it and it will run again next week.
The trouble starts when the team grows. An IT services sales leader told us their in-house AI research took 90 to 120 minutes per account, and they needed about 500 accounts covered a day across 50 reps. At those numbers the research alone is 750 to 1,000 hours a day, before anyone checks it. The bottleneck was never the model. It was the sources, the scheduling and the checking around it.
Five jobs sit between a good prompt and research a whole team can rely on.
| The job | Build it on an assistant or warehouse | Buy Salesmotion |
|---|---|---|
| Data sources | Choose, license and connect each source yourself: news, SEC filings, earnings call transcripts, job postings, podcasts. Each has its own format, limits and terms. | 1,000+ public sources already connected, including earnings calls, SEC filings, job postings, news, podcasts and clinical trials. |
| Freshness | Schedule a run per account, notice when one fails quietly, and decide how often is often enough for each source. | Every tracked account is checked every day, and signals arrive in the app, by email or in your CRM without anyone asking. |
| Coverage across the team | Prompts live with the rep who wrote them, so two reps can get two different answers about the same account. | The same brief, the same signals and the same score for every rep on every tracked account. |
| Checking the output | Someone reads the answer and checks the citations before a rep repeats it to a buyer. | Every claim links to its source: the transcript, the filing, the article or the job posting. |
| Upkeep | Models, connectors and source sites change. Someone owns the fixes for as long as the team relies on it. | Salesmotion maintains the sources and the pipeline. Your team uses the output. |
Salesmotion works inside the assistants teams already use. The MCP server connects Claude, ChatGPT and other assistants to Salesmotion's account data, with twelve built-in sales skills such as an account brief, an account plan, MEDDIC qualification and meeting prep.
For your own agents, warehouse or CRM, the REST API returns both the derived intelligence (summaries, SWOT analyses, scores) and the full source material (earnings call transcripts, job ads, news articles, SEC filings). Your engineers spend their time on the part only you can build: joining it to your product, support and CRM data. API and MCP access come with team and enterprise plans.
We sat in 55 buyer calls between August and October 2026. In 22 of them the buyer asked how this differs from doing the research themselves in ChatGPT, Claude or Copilot.
“How is this better than me going into Claude and creating an agent to do this search for me?”
“the only challenge is scale ... it's not just running a prompt, but there is some manual validation as well”
“I don't want to become an AI ... developer and trying to change these tools.”
Run your own build on a public company, then read the brief Salesmotion produced on Snowflake: every claim sourced and dated. Procurement can start on the security page in parallel.
A Claude agent researches an account well when someone asks it to. Salesmotion is the research system around that question: 1,000+ public sources already connected, every tracked account checked every day, one cited brief that every rep shares, and signals delivered without a prompt. You can use both: the Salesmotion MCP server brings the same data into Claude.
No. Salesmotion is the account-intelligence layer your assistant calls. Teams that work in an assistant connect it through the MCP server and run Salesmotion's built-in sales skills there, such as an account brief, an account plan or meeting prep. Teams that prefer a dedicated app use the Salesmotion web app. Both read the same data.
Yes, through the REST API, included with team and enterprise plans. It returns the derived intelligence (account summaries, SWOT analyses, scores and talking points) and the full source material (earnings call transcripts, job ads, news articles and SEC filings), so your agents can combine it with your own CRM and product data. The help centre shows worked examples.
The Individual plan is $85/mo for one user and up to 100 accounts. Team and enterprise pricing scales with account volume, not seats. A build costs mostly people: the engineer who maintains it and the rep time spent checking its output. The business case page helps you put the two side by side.
When your most valuable signals are your own data, such as product usage, support tickets or renewal history, and a platform team will own the build. Many teams that build still take public company intelligence from Salesmotion through the API and spend their engineering time on the part only they can do.
A Signal Agent, Research Agent, and Outreach Agent — working every day so your team spends less time researching and more time closing.
